Classic Recipe

  • Hook 6X-long streamer (Mustad 3665A), 4-10
  • Thread Yellow 6/0

Materials

  • Tag Flat gold tinsel (1)
  • Tail Yellow hackle tips (2)
  • Body Yellow chenille (1 strand)
  • Wing Brown bucktail (sparse clump)
  • Throat Red hackle fibers (small bunch)
  • Cheeks Jungle cock (or brass Edson eyes) (2)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread above the barb and wrap a short tag of 3-4 turns of flat gold tinsel.
  2. Tie in two yellow hackle tips as the tail, curving together, about half a shank length long.
  3. Tie in yellow chenille at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to two eye-widths behind the eye.
  4. Stack a sparse clump of brown bucktail and tie it in on top, extending just past the tail tip. The dark wing over the light body is what makes this the 'Dark' Tiger.
  5. Tie a small bunch of red hackle fibers under the shank as a throat, reaching the hook point.
  6. Add a short jungle cock nail on each cheek, form a neat yellow head, whip finish, and cement.
