How to tie it
Put several wraps of.015 lead on the front third of a size 10 2XL nymph hook, start black thread with a dam behind and in front of the weight, and take the thread to the bend.
Tie in the Mylar tinsel with the gold side against the hook. Before wrapping it, take three big open thread wraps forward to get the thread out of the way and remember the count.
Wrap the tinsel two or three turns down around the bend and back up to form the tag, back the three thread wraps off, and catch the tinsel off on the underside of the hook so it stays clear of the tail.
Tie in a substantial clump of black hackle barbs for the tail, about a hook gap or slightly longer, with a pinch wrap. Bury the butts.
Wax the thread and dub a body of the black wool/rabbit blend from the tail forward, stopping short of the weighted section so there is room for a modest thorax.
Rib the body with the gold tinsel in about four evenly spaced turns and tie it off.
Tie in a narrow slip of light mottled turkey on top with loose wraps, positioned so it folds cleanly over, then lock it down with tight wraps.
Dub the same black blend a little heavier to build a thicker thorax up to the tie-off point.
Fold the turkey forward over the thorax keeping the fibers parallel, tie it down and add a few flat wraps to make a bed for the hackle.
Tie in a black hen hackle with long barbs, take about two wraps as a collar, tie off, pull everything back, build the head, snip the excess and whip finish.
