Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph, 12-14
  • Thread fluorescent yellow 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Gold or black bead (small (optional))
  • Tail Olive ostrich herl (marabou, twisted)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (twisted marabou rope)
  • Rib Clear head cement (stretch tubing / mono)
  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (mono or bead-chain (optional))
  • Thorax Olive ostrich herl (marabou)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start yellow thread; if using a bead, seat it at the eye.
  2. Tie in a slim bundle of olive marabou at the bend, leaving the butts long to form the body.
  3. Twist the marabou into a tight rope for durability, then leave the tail tip about half a shank long.
  4. Wrap the twisted marabou rope forward to the 80% mark for a slim, tapered body.
  5. Counter-rib with 5-6 turns of clear stretch tubing to armor the fragile marabou, then tie off.
  6. Optionally figure-8 small mono eyes, then wrap a short marabou thorax.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
