Reference Recipe

  • Hook dry fly, 10-12
  • Thread tan/brown 14/0

Materials

  • Tail Dark ginger material (few fibers)
  • Body Fawn tan (dubbing)
  • Wings Barred pectoral fins (wood duck, upright divided)
  • Hackle Brown and grizzly hackle (one each, mixed)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start tan thread.
  2. Tie in a few dark ginger fibers at the bend for a tail one shank long.
  3. Post and divide upright barred wood-duck wings at the 65% mark.
  4. Dub a fawn-tan body from bend to wing base.
  5. Tie in one brown and one grizzly hackle behind the wings.
  6. Take 3-4 turns of each hackle around the wing base, then tie off.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and cement.
