Reference Recipe

  • Hook wet fly, 10-12
  • Thread brown 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Brown permanent marker (partridge fibers, short)
  • Body Fawn (hare's ear dubbing)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine wire)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (partridge, soft)
  • Wing Mottled brown pectoral fins (turkey or hen, down-wing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start brown thread.
  2. Tie in a few brown partridge fibers at the bend for a short tail.
  3. Bind in gold wire, dub a fawn hare's-ear body to the 75% mark, then rib forward in 5 turns and break off the wire.
  4. Tie in a brown partridge feather by the tip and take 2 soft-hackle turns, sweeping the fibers back.
  5. Prepare matched slips of mottled turkey and set them as a low tent down-wing over the body.
  6. Bind the wing, form a small head, whip finish and cement.
