Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL-2XL nymph, 10-12
  • Thread brown 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Pheasant (3 fibers, splayed)
  • Abdomen Mottled brown pectoral fins (hare's ear dubbing, flat)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine wire)
  • Wingcase Mottled brown thin skin (turkey)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (partridge)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (hare's ear dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start brown thread.
  2. Tie in three pheasant-tail fibers at the bend for the tail, splayed.
  3. Bind in fine gold wire, then dub a mottled brown abdomen over the rear two-thirds, kept slim and flat.
  4. Rib forward with 5-6 turns of gold wire and break it off.
  5. Tie in a mottled turkey wingcase, then dub a wider hare's-ear thorax.
  6. Sweep partridge fibers back for legs, pull the wingcase over and bind it down.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and cement, then pick out the thorax to suggest legs and gills.
