Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL nymph / burrower, 8-10
  • Thread tan 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Tan/cream arctic fox body hair (3 pheasant or marabou tips, short)
  • Gills Tan carapace (ostrich herl along body)
  • Abdomen Cream-tan material (dubbing)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine wire)
  • Wingcase Mottled brown thin skin (turkey)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (partridge)
  • Thorax Tan carapace (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the 3XL hook and start tan thread.
  2. Tie in three short tan pheasant or marabou tips at the bend for the tails.
  3. Bind in fine gold wire, then dub a pale tan abdomen over the rear two-thirds.
  4. Tie a length of tan ostrich along one side, then spiral the wire forward to trap the ostrich as breathing gills and break off the wire.
  5. Tie in a mottled turkey wingcase, then dub a fuller tan thorax.
  6. Add a few partridge fibers for legs, pull the wingcase over and bind it down.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and cement.
