Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph, 14-16
  • Thread black 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Black ostrich herl (2 goose biots, split)
  • Abdomen Black ostrich herl (dubbing or thread, slim)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Wingcase Black floss (turkey or thin skin)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (dubbing)
  • Legs Black ostrich herl (hen or partridge fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start black thread.
  2. Tie in two black goose biots at the bend, split into a narrow V tail.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire, then build a slim black abdomen to the 60% mark.
  4. Counter-rib the wire forward in 5-6 turns and break it off.
  5. Tie in a black wingcase strip at the 60% mark, then dub a fuller black thorax.
  6. Sweep a few black hen fibers back along each side for legs, then pull the wingcase over and bind it down.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and cement.
