Lay a thread base from a quarter-shank behind the eye back to the bend. Tie in a sparse tuft of light dun Zelon at the 75% point and bind it back to the bend for a trailing shuck.
Dub a thin strand of olive-brown Superfine and build a slightly tapered abdomen forward to the 75% mark.
Dub a small oval thorax that overlaps slightly onto the front of the abdomen.
Stack a sparse bunch of elk hair to reach the bend and tie it in as an upright wing/post at the front of the thorax with two soft wraps then five or six tight anchoring wraps; lift the butts and bring the thread ahead of the wing.
Tie in the grizzly hackle at the wing base and wind it parachute-style around the post in five or six turns, each under the last, then tie it off in front of the wing. The parachute wrap sits the fly flush in the film like a struggling emerger rather than perched high.
Clip the hackle tip and elk butts, whip finish behind the eye, and trim the Zelon shuck to about a shank length.
