Reference Recipe

  • Hook wet fly / soft hackle, 10-12
  • Thread olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Wood duck (few fibers, short)
  • Body Olive-green material (dubbing or seal)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine wire)
  • Thorax Dark olive material (dubbing)
  • Hackle Brown or olive hackle (partridge or hen, soft)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start olive thread.
  2. Tie in a few wood-duck fibers at the bend for a short tail.
  3. Bind in fine gold wire, then dub a robust olive-green body to the 70% mark.
  4. Rib forward with 5-6 open turns of gold wire and break it off.
  5. Dub a small darker olive thorax.
  6. Tie in a partridge or olive hen feather by the tip and take 2 soft-hackle turns, sweeping the fibers back.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
