Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper tungsten bead (1)
  • Tail CDL (sparse)
  • Body Squirrel or hare, brown-purple blend (dubbed slim)
  • Rib Copper wire (fine)
  • Collar CDC + Ice Dub (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper tungsten bead to the front of the jig hook, mount it, and start brown thread behind the bead.
  2. Run thread to the bend and tie in a sparse Coq de Leon tail about one shank long.
  3. Catch in fine copper wire for the rib, then dub a slim brown-purple squirrel or hare body forward to the thorax and tie off.
  4. Spiral the copper wire forward in 5-6 open turns and secure.
  5. Dub a sparse collar of blended CDC and Ice Dub behind the bead for a buggy, mobile front.
  6. Sweep the collar fibers back, build a thin thread wrap, whip finish and varnish.
