Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 10-14
  • Thread Orange 8/0

Materials

  • Tail GP crest (small)
  • Body Flat gold tinsel (smooth)
  • Rib Gold oval (fine)
  • Body hackle Orange, palmered (sparse)
  • Wing Bronze mallard (rolled)
  • Cheeks Jungle cock (tiny)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and run orange thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant crest tail curving up, then catch in fine gold oval rib and an orange cock hackle by the tip for palmering.
  3. Wrap flat gold tinsel forward into a smooth body to just short of the eye and tie off.
  4. Palmer the orange hackle forward in 4-5 open turns, then counter-rib the gold oval through it and secure.
  5. Roll a slip of bronze mallard and set it low over the body as a wing to the bend.
  6. Tie a tiny jungle cock eye as a cheek each side of the head.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
