Reference Recipe

  • Hook articulated: 35mm shank up front joined to a trailing hook, 2/0 front hook
  • Thread brown GSP 200

Materials

  • Tail/rear Gold grizzly-barred hackle (rabbit zonker strip)
  • Flash Gold flashabou (few strands)
  • Body Yellow and brown material (spun deer hair)
  • Bill Orange permanent marker (foam)
  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (3D doll eyes)

How to tie it

  1. Start on the rear shank: mount it and tie in a gold grizzly-barred rabbit zonker tail with a few strands of flash.
  2. Whip the rear, then connect the front hook to the shank so the two sections articulate.
  3. On the front, spin and pack alternating clumps of yellow and brown deer hair the full length to the eye.
  4. Whip finish, then trim the spun hair into a plump duckling body and rounded head, flat underneath so it sits low.
  5. Bind or glue an orange foam bill at the front and set 3D eyes into the head.
  6. Coat the bill and eye area with UV resin to lock everything.
