Reference Recipe

  • Hook streamer, 3XL or jig, 2-6
  • Thread tan/olive 140 denier

Materials

  • Tail Olive ostrich herl (rabbit strip or marabou)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (dubbing-loop brush (rabbit/ice dub))
  • Pectoral fins Mottled brown pectoral fins (hen or partridge feathers)
  • Head Olive ostrich herl (sculpin wool or dense dubbing loop)
  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (lead dumbbell)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, lash a lead dumbbell near the eye for a hook-up ride, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in an olive rabbit or marabou tail about one shank long.
  3. Spin olive dubbing in a loop, then wrap the resulting brush forward to the 60% mark, sweeping fibers back each turn.
  4. Tie a splayed mottled hen feather on each side for pectoral fins.
  5. Build a broad head with a second, dense dubbing loop packed around the dumbbell.
  6. Whip finish at the eye, cement, then trim the head flat and wide like a sculpin's.
