How to tie it
Slide a head turner bead onto a size 10 jig hook and start your thread. The jig hook rides point up, which is what makes this fly fishable right in the weeds.
Pull out a clump of Simi Seal and pull-and-stack it to line the fibres up, then tie it in as a tail about the same length as the body. Nip the excess off but leave a little stub in front, which evens out the gap where the bead sits.
Load a dubbing loop with two or three sparse clumps of Simi Seal. If a clump looks thick, loosen the fibres the way you did for the tail so they spin up easier. Better a little more than a little less.
Spin the loop tight, then brush the loop out before you wrap it. That thins the core and leaves the fibres radiating out, and that difference is the entire pattern. If you want a really durable version, build it as a wire dubbing brush instead.
Wrap the brush forward like a hackle, sweeping everything back with each turn. It will look like you are binding fibres down, but do not worry about it. Tie off, pull everything back, lock it in with good wraps and a couple of whip finishes.
Brush the fly out hard until the fibres sweep back into a teardrop shape. If you want them sitting nicely in the box, hold them under hot water for three or four seconds to take the memory out of the synthetic dubbing, though they pull into shape on their own once they hit the lake.
