Drunk Drea

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 2 versions

Note: Contested against a published dressing: Same fly, same composite-loop construction, same size 4 streamer hook and 140 denier thread — but the materials in the loop are not the ones we store. (1) We have no bead; the source starts with a 3/16" gold tungsten bead, which is structural, not cosmetic. Reference Recipe

  • Hook streamer, standard shank, 4-6
  • Thread tan/ginger 140 denier

Materials

  • Body Ginger spandex life flex (marabou + schlappen in composite loop)
  • Flash Copper/gold flashabou (few strands)
  • Collar Ginger spandex life flex (schlappen feather)
  • Head Tan carapace (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the streamer hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Load a composite loop with ginger marabou, a few strands of copper flash, and cut schlappen fibers, then spin it into a shaggy brush.
  3. Wrap the brush forward in touching turns to the 60% mark, stroking fibers back each turn so the fly stays slim.
  4. Build a second, denser section of the same brush to the 85% mark for a fuller shoulder.
  5. Tie in a ginger schlappen feather and take 2-3 turns for a mobile collar, sweeping the fibers back.
  6. Dub a small tan head, whip finish and cement.
