Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved emerger, 18-22
  • Thread black 70 denier

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Brown permanent marker (zelon/antron, short)
  • Abdomen Black ostrich herl (tying thread, smooth)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Thorax Peacock ice dub (herl)
  • Wing bud Dun microfibetts (CDC, sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start black thread.
  2. Tie in a short, sparse brown zelon shuck at the bend, half a shank long.
  3. Lay a smooth black thread abdomen to the 70% mark.
  4. Rib forward with fine copper wire in 5-6 turns, then break it off.
  5. Wrap 2 turns of peacock herl for the thorax.
  6. Sweep a few CDC fibers over the top as an emerging wing bud, cropped short.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
