Drowned Trico

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook dry fly / nymph, 20-24
  • Thread black 14/0

Materials

  • Tail White/pale dun microfibetts (2 microfibbets, split)
  • Abdomen Black ostrich herl (thread or slim dubbing)
  • Wings White uni stretch (antron/CDC, spent)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tiny hook and start black thread.
  2. Split two white microfibbets into a narrow V tail, one shank long.
  3. Build a very slim black abdomen forward to the 60% mark; a trico is a sliver, so use almost no dubbing.
  4. Tie a small pinch of white antron across the shank and figure-8 it into spent wings.
  5. Dub a tiny black thorax to lock the wings flat.
  6. Whip finish and cement.
