Classic Recipe

  • Hook Blind-eye or up-eye classic salmon fly hook, 1/0-3
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tag Scarlet seal's fur (small)
  • Body Oval silver tinsel in three equal portions (full shank)
  • Butts Fiery-brown seal's fur after the first portion, deep blue seal's fur after the second (2)
  • Throat Doubled magenta and deep blue hackles (1 collar)
  • Wing Cinnamon turkey tail strips set upright (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Form a small tag/butt of scarlet seal's fur at the tail.
  2. Wind the body in three equal portions of oval silver tinsel; after the first portion add a butt of fiery-brown seal's fur, and after the second a butt of deep blue seal's fur.
  3. At the throat wind doubled magenta and deep blue hackles together as a full beard and stroke them down.
  4. Set matched cinnamon turkey tail strips upright as the wing.
  5. Form a small head and whip finish.
