Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig nymph hook, barbless, 12
  • Thread fluorescent orange 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (slotted tungsten, 3.3mm)
  • Body Hare's ear (Rabbit Dreads rope)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (small wire)
  • Collar Black ostrich herl (squirrel dubbing, sparse)
  • Tag Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper slotted tungsten bead onto a jig hook, seat it against the eye, mount the hook and start orange thread behind the bead.
  2. Run the thread to the bend and build a short thread tag there, then coat it thin so the whip color and tag always match.
  3. Bind in the copper wire at the bend and leave it hanging for the rib.
  4. Tie in the hare's ear Rabbit Dreads rope and wrap forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, keeping the body slim.
  5. Counter-wrap the copper wire forward in 5-6 open turns to lock the body, then helicopter it off.
  6. Dub a sparse black squirrel collar right behind the bead, one or two turns only.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
