Classic Recipe

  • Hook 3x long nymph, 6-10

Materials

  • Weight Lead wire (mid-shank)
  • Body Olive-brown dubbing (wide, flat abdomen)
  • Wingcase Turkey (folded)
  • Eyes Melted mono or bead chain (large)
  • Legs Pheasant or partridge (sprawling)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long nymph hook, wrap lead wire around the mid-shank for weight, and start olive thread.
  2. Tie in large melted-mono or bead-chain eyes across the shank near the head with figure-8 wraps.
  3. Run thread to the bend and dub a wide, flattened olive-brown abdomen forward over the rear two-thirds, keeping it broad and flat.
  4. Fold a turkey slip forward as a wingcase and pin it at the eyes, then dub a thick thorax up to the eyes.
  5. Pull the wingcase over the thorax and tie it down behind the eyes.
  6. Tie in sprawling pheasant or partridge fibers as legs, splayed out each side.
  7. Build a small head behind the eyes, whip finish and varnish.
