  • Hook saltwater tarpon hook, 1/0-3/0
  • Thread White 3/0 (210 denier)

Materials

  • Tail White uni stretch (white bucktail or synthetic hair)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (pearl Flashabou)
  • Body White/gray material (EP or synthetic baitfish fiber, stacked)
  • Back Gray/olive top (darker synthetic fiber over the top)
  • Eyes Plastic (two plastic dumbbell or 3D eyes)
  • Head Clear head cement (UV resin or head cement)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base along the shank to the bend.
  2. Tie a sparse white bucktail tail at the bend and add a few strands of pearl flash, keeping the whole fly 2.5 to 3 inches long.
  3. Build the mullet body by stacking clumps of white synthetic fiber top and bottom, working forward and reversing each clump to add bulk without weight.
  4. Add a darker gray-olive fiber over the top for a shaded back, blending it into the white belly.
  5. Attach light plastic eyes on the sides near the front so the fly stays lightweight and swims level.
  6. Whip finish, snip, and shape the head with a drop of UV resin, trimming the body into a rounded mullet profile.
