Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved pupa/scud hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Beads White bead (two white glass or tungsten beads)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (black tying thread or Stretch Floss)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (fine silver wire or flat tinsel)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (black thread build-up)

How to tie it

  1. Slide two white beads onto the hook and push both to the eye, then mount the hook and start thread behind them.
  2. Bind in the silver rib at the bend, leaving it hanging.
  3. Build a slim, smooth black body forward to the back bead, keeping it glossy and thin.
  4. Wrap the silver rib forward in 6-7 evenly spaced turns for crisp segmentation, tie off and break the wire.
  5. Take a couple of thread wraps to seat the body against the rear bead, whip finish between the two beads and snip.
  6. Coat the black body with thin UV resin so it shines and rides slick.
