Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved pupa/scud hook, 12-18
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Silver bead (one metal bead sized to hook)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (black tying thread or Stretch Floss)
  • Rib 1 Silver metal tape (fine silver wire)
  • Rib 2 Red buzzer wrap (fine red wire)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (black Ice Dub or peacock herl)
  • Gills White uni stretch (small tuft of white antron)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a silver bead onto the hook, push it to the eye, then mount the hook and start thread behind it.
  2. Bind in the silver and red wires at the bend, leaving both hanging.
  3. Build a slim, smooth thread body forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Wrap the two wire ribs forward together in 5-6 even turns so they run side by side, then tie off and break them.
  5. Dub a small dark thorax collar right behind the bead and add a short white antron gill tuft on top.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead, snip, and gloss the body with thin UV resin if desired.
