How to tie it
Cut a strip of Double Decker foam about a hook gape wide. The pre-laminated two-colour sheet is the shortcut: you get a dark top and light belly in one piece without gluing anything up.
Start light olive 140 den at the eye and wind back to the bend, then bind the foam strip down at the rear with the light side underneath, leaving a short tag past the bend.
Dub a body segment of golden olive Tactical Microflash forward to the 40% mark, pull the foam over the top and lock it with three or four tight turns to form the first segment.
Dub a second segment forward to the 70% mark, pull the foam over again and secure. Segmenting the foam this way is what gives the fly its bulk and flotation without becoming a shapeless block.
Tie in a clump of white Ultra Dry Yarn at that front tie-down as an upright wing and trim it to about a shank length. On a size 8 attractor the wing is your sight indicator on broken water and it needs to be generous.
Set two chartreuse rubber legs each side, splayed front and back, with figure-eights over the tie-down points. The legs are the trigger. They twitch on their own in the surface tension even on a dead drift.
Whip finish, trim the front foam to a short head, and add a drop of Solarez Bone Dry at the thread wraps so the foam cannot slip.
