How to tie it
Mount bead chain eyes on top of the shank of a size 14 Daiichi 1760 with chartreuse thread. On top, not underneath. The fly rides upside down, which keeps the hook point out of the weed and gives it the same profile either way up.
Tie a modest clump of chartreuse marabou in at the rear, pinched a little longer than the body. Do not overdo it; damsels are slim, dainty bugs.
Tie extra small gold wire in along the side and run it to the rear.
Tear the laser dub up before you spin it, shortening the fibers, or running the dubbing through a coffee grinder if you are doing a batch, keeps the body thin and stops it looking unnatural when it gets chewed.
Dub a slim body forward, leaving a little space behind the eyes, then counter-rib with the gold wire for protection and contrast.
Tie four or five strands of Crystal Flash in just behind the eyes, pull them over to the other side and lay them back along the fly, trimming them near the tail as buggy legs.
Dub a little more laser dub behind and figure-eight around the eyes to build a bulbous head, whip finish, and brush the head to blend the cross wraps in.
