Classic Recipe

  • Hook Streamer, 4x long, 2-6
  • Thread White/olive 6/0

Materials

  • Body Two rabbit strips (stacked back to back)
  • Eyes Lead dumbbell (1 pair)
  • Flash Flashabou (at head)

How to tie it

  1. Mount hook, tie in dumbbell eyes near the hook eye.
  2. Tie in the olive strip on top of the shank and the white strip below, both extending well past the bend. Dark over light, like every baitfish.
  3. Glue the strips leather-to-leather behind the bend so the tail swims as one piece. Zap-A-Gap sparingly.
  4. Bind both strips down at intervals along the shank, parting the fur so the thread seats on leather.
  5. Add flash at the head, whip finish.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Two rabbit strips: Rabbit strip + pine squirrel strip — Mixed textures; Barred rabbit strips — Adds natural barring pattern
  • Eyes instead of Lead dumbbell: Tungsten dumbbell — Heavier, sinks faster; Bead chain — Lighter for shallow water
