The Orvis Company dressing

  • Hook 4X-long streamer hook, 4-8
  • Thread Black or white 3/0

Materials

  • Cone Silver or gold tungsten cone
  • Tail Pearl krystal flash
  • Wing Zonker Strip in black, brown, white, or olive
  • Body Sparkle Dubbing to match wing
  • Throat Red Krystal Flash
  • Legs Rubber legs to match wing
  • Collar and head Natural or dyed deer hair

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base along the shank.
  2. Bind a white rabbit strip to the underside at the bend, running well past the hook to form the belly and tail.
  3. Lay a darker rabbit strip on top, hide-to-hide with the belly, and lash the two together with a couple of thread stitches through the strips at mid-shank so they swim as one.
  4. Add a few strands of pearl flash along each side, then glue a 3D eye on each cheek of the joined strips.
  5. At the front quarter, spin a clump of deer hair to form a collar and packed head, sweeping the collar back.
  6. Whip finish at the eye, snip, then trim the deer hair into a bullet muddler head, flat on the bottom.
