  • Hook 3XL nymph hook, 6-12
  • Thread Brown 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Beads Gold bead (two brass beads)
  • Tail Brown permanent marker (two brown goose biots, split)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (medium copper wire)
  • Body Brown permanent marker (brown/amber stonefly dubbing)
  • Wingcase Mottled thin skin (turkey tail slip)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (coarse brown dubbing)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (brown hen hackle or partridge)

How to tie it

  1. Slide two gold beads to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in two splayed brown biots as a V tail, one gap wide, then bind in the copper rib.
  3. Dub a tapered brown body over the rear two-thirds and counter-wrap the rib in 5-6 open turns; tie off and break the wire.
  4. Bind in a mottled turkey wingcase slip, then dub a fat thorax up to the back bead.
  5. Wind two turns of brown hen hackle behind the rear bead for legs and sweep the fibers down.
  6. Pull the wingcase over the thorax, secure it against the rear bead, whip finish between the beads and snip.
