  • Hook salmon/steelhead wet hook, 2-6
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Beads Copper bead (two metal beads)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (black Ice Dub or seal-fur substitute)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (oval silver tinsel)
  • Spey hackle Black hackle (long-fibered schlappa or blue-eared pheasant)
  • Collar Guinea (one guinea fowl feather)
  • Wing Bronze window tint film strip (bronze mallard flank (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Slide two copper beads to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Bind in the silver rib, then dub a slim black body forward to the back bead.
  3. Counter-wrap the rib in 5 open turns and tie off.
  4. Tie in a long black spey hackle by the tip and palmer it forward in 3-4 turns to the rear bead, sweeping the flowing fibers back after each turn.
  5. Wind one turn of guinea as a speckled collar and sweep it back, then set a low bronze mallard wing over the top if desired.
  6. Whip finish between the beads and snip, stroking the hackle down along the body.
