Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL nymph hook, 8-12
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Beads Black nickel bead (two metal beads)
  • Tail Brown permanent marker (two brown goose biots, split)
  • Body Peacock ice dub (several peacock herls)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine copper wire)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (one brown hen hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Slide two black beads to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in two brown biots splayed into a short V tail, one gap wide.
  3. Bind in the copper wire, then a bundle of peacock herl; twist the herl into a rope and wrap forward to the back bead, building a full body.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 5-6 open turns to protect the fragile herl, then tie off and break the wire.
  5. Wind two turns of soft brown hen hackle right behind the rear bead and sweep the fibers back, binding a collar.
  6. Whip finish between the beads and snip.
