Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry-fly / light nymph hook, 14-16
  • Thread Brown or tan 70 denier

Materials

  • Underbody Ice Dub, natural/peacock (pinch)
  • Body 2mm foam, tan/brown (1 narrow strip)
  • Wing Krystal Flash over razor foam, tan (small bunch)
  • Legs Small round rubber legs, barred brown (2 pairs)
  • Indicator 1mm foam, hi-vis (optional) (small tab)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and dub a sparse Ice Dub underbody at the rear.
  2. Tie in a narrow strip of tan/brown 2mm foam at the bend, long end back over the bend.
  3. Advance the thread, pull the foam forward and tie it down at about 70% to form the body; add one small rubber leg to each side.
  4. Tie in a Krystal Flash wing over a thin razor-foam strip, extending to the bend.
  5. Add a front pair of splayed rubber legs, form a small foam head, add a hi-vis tab if desired, whip finish and cement.
