Dornan's Micro Egg Sacker

Egg · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry-fly / light nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 70 denier

Materials

  • Egg sac Peacock ice dub (pinch)
  • Underbody Pale pink 2mm foam (1 narrow strip)
  • Overbody Brown 2mm foam (1 narrow strip)
  • Wing Krystal Flash (over razor-foam or alone) (small bunch)
  • Legs Small round rubber legs, brown (2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and dub a small ball of peacock Ice Dub at the bend to represent the trailing egg sac.
  2. Tie in a pale pink foam strip and a brown foam strip together at the bend, pink underneath and brown on top, long ends back.
  3. Advance the thread, pull both foam layers forward and tie them down at about 70% so the pink shows as a belly beneath the brown back; add a small rubber leg to each side.
  4. Tie in a Krystal Flash wing (rather than poly) over the top, extending to about the bend.
  5. Add a front pair of splayed rubber legs, form a small brown foam head, whip finish and cement.
