Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry-fly / light nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Yellow 70 denier

Materials

  • Body 2mm foam, yellow (1 narrow strip)
  • Underbody Ice Dub, yellow or golden (pinch)
  • Underwing Krystal Flash, gold/root beer (4-6 strands)
  • Wing 0.5mm razor/cross-link foam, tan or yellow (1 strip)
  • Legs Small round rubber legs, yellow/brown (2 pairs)
  • Indicator 1mm foam, orange or yellow (optional) (small tab)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and tie in a narrow strip of yellow 2mm foam at the bend, long end back over the bend.
  2. Dub a sparse yellow/golden Ice Dub underbody forward to about 70%.
  3. Pull the foam over the top and tie down at the 70% mark to form the body segment; add one small rubber leg to each side.
  4. Tie in a few strands of gold Krystal Flash, then a flat 0.5mm razor-foam overwing reaching to the bend.
  5. Add a front pair of splayed rubber legs, build a small foam head, leave a short hi-vis indicator tab if desired, whip finish and cement.
