Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard dry-fly hook (e.g. Dai-Riki 300), 8-14
- Thread Brown 70 denier
Materials
- Body Red buzzer wrap (Dry-fly dubbing)
- Back/Head/Tail Natural deer hair (One cleaned, stacked bunch pulled over the top)
How to tie it
- Start thread at the bend and tie in a cleaned, stacked bunch of deer hair by the tips so a short tail juts past the bend.
- Dub a plump red body forward to just behind the eye.
- Pull the deer hair forward over the top of the body as a shellback and bind it down behind the eye.
- Fold the remaining butts back and lash them to leave a stub head over the eye.
- Whip finish under the head and add a drop of head cement.
- Trim any stray fibers, leaving a tail behind and a bristly head up front.
