Hook Mustad R90 streamer hook, 8
Thread Red 3/0
Materials
Dumbbell eyes Plain silver (yellow or pink also work) (Small, one pair)
Rabbit zonker strip (body) Black rabbit strip (One thin strip)
Marabou (collar) Black marabou (One feather)
Marabou (collar highlight) Fluorescent pink marabou (One feather, stripped down to the tip)
How to tie it
Mount a size 8 Mustad R90 and lay a solid base of red 3/0 thread, a stout thread matters on this pattern, taking it back to the rear of the shank and then forward again.
Tie in the small dumbbell eyes near the front with heavy figure-eight wraps in both directions until they cannot move.
Lay a thin black rabbit zonker strip along the top so the hide ends at the hook bend and the fur extends past it. Cut the hide at that point and tie the front end in right behind the eyes.
Strip the fluff from a black marabou feather, tie it in behind the eyes as you would a hackle, trim the stem, grip the tip with hackle pliers and take two or three wraps, stroking the fibers rearward with every turn to build a swept-back marabou collar. Tie it off behind the eyes.
Strip a fluorescent pink marabou feather down to just the tip, tie it in behind the eyes, trim the stem and take only two wraps over the black collar, again stroking the fibers back. Tie off.
Wrap red thread heavily around and between the dumbbell eyes to bury every material butt and build a solid red head. Do not let the red creep back into the marabou.
