Zelon / Antron yarn (tail) Dun zelon antron yarn (One strand, trimmed to about 1/4 in)
Straggle string (body) Iron blue (One length)
Zelon / Antron yarn (wing) Dun zelon antron yarn (Two strands per side)
Neck hackle Black hackle (One small feather)
How to tie it
Mount a size 12 Mustad R50, start black nano silk and lay down a short thread base.
Tie in one strand of dun Zelon at the rear of the hook and trim it to a short tail, about a quarter inch. No longer.
Move the thread to the midpoint, tie in the iron blue straggle string there and bind it back to the tail, then run the thread forward, stopping short of the eye to leave room for the hackle.
Wrap the straggle string forward in touching turns to form the body and tie it off.
Bring the thread across, double two strands of Zelon over the thread and tie them in on the near side of the hook, cut long; repeat on the far side, then take a few wraps over the base to lock the wing down.
Tie in a small black neck hackle at the head, trim the stem, and take three or four wraps only, keep the collar sparse and short-fibered, then tie off.
Whip finish a couple of good turns at the eye and clip the thread.
Gather the wing fibers together, pull them up, and cut them off at a 45-degree angle so the wing slopes back to about the tail length.
