How to tie it
Put the 7/64 in black nickel bead on the hook with the wide hole toward the eye but leave it back for a moment. Start thread right at the eyelet, tie in a tuft of white Antron for the gills, wrap over it, whip finish, then slide the bead up over the wraps to trap the gills behind the eye.
Start steel 8/0 thread behind the bead. Tie in the fine brown wire along the near side of the shank and wrap it down to the hook bend, spinning the bobbin counter-clockwise now and then to flatten the thread.
Wrap the flattened steel thread forward and back to build a smooth, slim body, spinning the bobbin to keep the thread flat.
Rib the body with the brown wire, six or seven evenly spaced turns, and helicopter off the tag.
Take two red inferno goose biots together, tips facing the bead, and tie them in on the near side; wind them under to the bottom of the fly, then wrap the thread forward to lock them and trim the excess. How far back you tie them sets the size of the wing buds.
Whip finish the steel thread and start rust 8/0 thread at the front.
Split the two biots with a bodkin and tie them one at a time up the sides so each tip rides just over the top edge of the bead, forming two wing buds. Trim the excess.
Take a few rust wraps in front of the wing buds to build a small thorax behind the bead, then whip finish.
Singe off any stray thread on the underside with a lighter, and trim the white Antron gills to length by pulling them over the bead and cutting about halfway.
Coat the fly with head cement or UV finish and blend it around the whole body.
