How to tie it
Split a clump of white Antron in half and set aside just a small portion. Everything on this fly is proportioned small. Start the thread behind the eye, tie in the Antron for the gills, trim and secure, then slide the 3/32 inch black nickel bead on with the wider hole toward the eye and push it over the butts. Too much Antron and the bead won't seat.
Start the gray nano silk behind the bead and build a small even layer, pulled tight.
Tie in the small black Ultra Wire and bind it back along the shank toward the bend.
Lift the wire forward and take 6-7 thread wraps behind it to form a small butt and start the taper, then come back in front of the wire.
Wind the gray thread forward to build the body. This thread is the finished body, so keep it thin at the rear and let it get gradually fuller toward the head. It doesn't need to be a perfect taper, just heavier at the front.
Colour the butt solidly with the red Pantone pen, then run the flesh-coloured pen over the next section up to about a third of the way along the body to blend the transition.
Rib the fly: one turn of the black wire at the very back, then 6-7 evenly spaced turns to the front, plus one at the top, and wiggle the wire off.
Colour a small section of the working thread with the red Pantone pen and take a few whip finishes behind the bead so the thorax comes out red, matching the butt. Cut the thread.
Pull the Antron back and trim short gills, just enough to glow.
Coat the fly with clear UV resin and smooth it out with a bodkin; the coating blends the marker colours into the body as it cures. Cure to finish.
