Don's Maroon Black Leech

Streamer · Wet Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 3xl streamer or curved scud hook, 10-14
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Maroon marabou (small sparse clump)
  • Body dubbing Blended maroon and black (1 loosely dubbed rope)
  • Rib (optional) Fine copper wire (1 strand)
  • Bead (optional) Black bead (1)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at mid-shank and run to the bend above the barb.
  2. Tie in a sparse maroon marabou tail about one shank length long.
  3. Dub a shaggy blended maroon/black body forward to just behind the eye.
  4. Counter-rib with wire in open turns if used and tie off.
  5. Pick out the dubbing to give a mobile, buggy leech profile, then whip finish at the eye.
