Tyer Recipe

  • Hook curved pupa/scud hook, #12-16
  • Thread Maroon/Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Maroon bead (1)
  • Body Maroon or black material
  • Wire rib Silver or copper wire
  • Breather gills White uni stretch (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the maroon bead to the eye; start thread and wrap to a point above the barb.
  2. Tie in a length of fine wire for the rib at the rear.
  3. Wrap thread forward in smooth overlapping turns to build a thin body ending one bead-width behind the bead.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 5-6 open even turns; tie off and trim.
  5. Tie in a small white antron tuft at the front for breather gills and trim short.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead.
