Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Mustad R50 dry fly hook, 8
  • Thread Fluoro bright yellow Standard (Fluoro Brite)

Materials

  • Round foam eyes Yellow mm foam (6mm, one piece cut in half)
  • UV2 rabbit tail Yellow mcflylon (A small clump, one body length)
  • Straggle string body Fluoro yellow mono (One strand)
  • UV2 rabbit wing Fire tiger (A small clump, half the tail length)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a base layer of yellow thread on the hook.
  2. Cut the 6mm yellow foam eye piece in half, lay one half crosswise just behind the hook eye, pull very tight on the first wrap and then figure-eight it into place to form the booby eyes.
  3. Tie in a small clump of yellow rabbit at the bend for the tail, measured about one body length, and build a little bulk under it. Take at least one wrap around the base of the tail itself.
  4. Tie in the fluoro yellow straggle string at the bend, run the thread forward to the eyes, and wrap the straggle forward, stroking the fibres back on each turn, for a full body. Tie off behind the eyes.
  5. Tie in a clump of fire tiger rabbit as the wing behind the eyes, measured to about half the length of the tail, then wrap forward over the eyes.
  6. Bring the thread in front of the eyes, whip finish there to form a small yellow head, and cut the thread.
  7. Trim the sharp edges off the foam eyes to round them slightly, which finishes the fly.
