Mono floss, wing buds Orange mono floss wing buds (One foot, folded to four thicknesses)
Holographic tinsel body Silver flashabou (Large, one strand)
Ultra wire rib Black wire (Very fine, 5-6 turns)
Hard As Nails coating Clear head cement (A full coat over the fly and wing buds)
How to tie it
Start the black thread on the hook. Cut a good foot of orange floss, fold it in half, in half again and spin it together so you have one thick orange strand.
Lay the folded floss across the thread and tie it in right at the eye so one strand lies along each side of the hook, parallel with the shank, then whip finish and cut the thread.
Slide on the white bead first. It does duty as the gills, then the silver bead behind it, which adds the weight needed to get this fly down.
Restart the thread behind the beads and build a solid thread dam so the beads can't move.
Bring one orange floss strand back along each side, laying them tight against the sides of the beads, tie them off to form the wing buds, wrap back a little and trim the excess.
Tie in the very fine black wire at the back of the hook, going about halfway around the bend so the body extends well down the hook.
Tie in the large holographic tinsel at the same point, bring the thread forward to the silver bead, then wrap the tinsel forward to form the body and tie it off.
Rib the body with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of the black wire and tie off behind the beads.
Whip finish behind the silver bead a couple of times for security, then coat the entire fly, body and wing buds especially, with Hard As Nails and let it dry to finish.
