How to tie it
Slide the 5/32 inch gold tungsten bead onto the hook and start the wine thread behind it.
Tie in a small clump of wine marabou for the tail, measured to about one shank length, and bind it down not just to the end of the shank but about halfway around the bend.
Double one strand of red crystal flash over the thread so two strands lie along the tail, tie it in, and trim it just slightly shorter than the marabou. The flash should be very discreet.
Tie in the fine copper wire along the shank and secure it for the rib.
Take a claret marabou quill with the fluffy fibres at the base and tie it in by the tips at the bead, then bind it back toward the tail and bring the thread forward to the bead.
Wrap the marabou forward: it stays thin at the back and gets progressively fluffier as the downy fibres come into play, bushing out into a lifelike thorax by the time you reach the bead. Tie it off there.
Rib the fly with 4-5 turns of the fine copper wire and tie it off right behind the bead.
Whip finish behind the bead and cut the thread to finish the fly.
