Tyer Recipe
Hook Mustad C70SD (or similar heavy short-shank saltwater/streamer hook), 2
Thread Black 6/0 nano silk
Materials
Flash blend, main body Gray sf blend (One good stout clump, full length)
Flash blend, second body Pink synthetic fiber (Half the clump of the gray, teased apart)
Flash blend, back Herring back (A thick pinch cut roughly in half)
Hologram eyes Gold middle (3/16 inch, one pair)
Gulff UV resin Clear uv resin (A thick coat over the head)
Gulff UV resin Fluorescent chartreuse green gulff uv resin (Top and bottom of the head)
Gulff UV resin Pink gulff uv resin (A hot spot on each side behind the eyes)
How to tie it
Lay a short base of black thread just behind the eye. You only need a thumbprint of thread to grip material.
Pull a stout, full-length clump of gray flash blend, find its halfway point, and tie it in at the eye with several tight wraps, then wrap back toward the bend to lock it. Fold the forward half underneath the shank and wrap over it so material stands both above and below. Leave it long. You can trim later.
Take a smaller pinch of pink flash blend, cut it roughly in half and tease the two halves together so both ends are frayed. Tie it in at the eye at about half the length of the gray, then fold the remainder underneath so there is pink above and below.
Pull a thick pinch of herring back flash blend, cut it in half, and tie it in at the eye on top only, matching it to the length of the main gray body. Trim the butts.
Build a deliberately large thread head, start the wraps well back and build forward, then whip finish twice to lock it before the resin goes on.
Coat the whole head thickly with clear UV resin and, while it is still wet, set a 3/16 inch gold hologram eye on each side, then cure with the UV lamp.
Add fluorescent chartreuse green resin over the top and bottom of the head, going right over the material butts to fill the gap and shape the head, and cure it.
Put a pink resin hot spot on each side just behind the eyes for gills and cure.
Brush all the material back, taper the very ends with your scissors and trim to length, keep it 6 inches or longer, to finish the fly.
