Materials
Bead Magic brown (2mm, one)
Antron gills White poly yarn (Very sparse pinch, half what you'd use on a full-size chironomid)
Tying thread (body) Steel gray tying thread (8/0, enough for a thin tapered body)
Thread rib Black thread (6/0, 6-7 turns)
Thread thorax Copper thread (12/0, a few wraps)
Gill-tying thread Any fine shade (12/0, a few wraps)
UV resin / Loctite finish Clear uv resin (One thin coat over the whole fly)
How to tie it
Slide the 2mm magic brown bead onto the hook with the wide end facing the eye and push it back toward the bend for now.
Start the fine 12/0 thread right behind the eye and tie in a very small pinch of white Antron pointing forward over the eye, half the amount you'd use on a bigger chironomid. Trim close, take a couple of wraps over the stubs, whip finish and cut the thread, then slide the bead forward over the Antron butts.
Start the 8/0 steel gray thread immediately behind the bead, trim the tag, then tie in the 6/0 black rib thread with a few wraps and trim its tag as well.
Wrap the steel thread back to the bend, spinning the bobbin counter-clockwise as you go so the thread lies flat, then wrap forward again to the bead. Keep the body very thin, only a slight taper toward the bead, and whip finish the steel thread behind the bead and cut it.
Spin the black 6/0 rib thread flat and wrap 6-7 evenly spaced turns from the bend up to the bead, then whip finish the black thread behind the bead and cut it.
Start the 12/0 copper thread behind the bead, trim the tag, and take just a few wraps to form a small thorax, keep it thin, then whip finish and cut.
Hold the Antron gills out of the way with a fingertip and singe off any stray thread ends with a flame.
Pull the gills back over the bead and trim both sides to the same length, roughly the width of the bead.
Coat the whole body and thorax with a thin layer of UV resin or Loctite, smooth it out with a bodkin, and cure to finish.
