Rabbit strip Tan rabbit strip (One strip about 1 to 1.5 inches long for the tail)
Electro braid Gold middle (One length for the body)
Rubber legs, barred Tan/brown rubber legs barred (Two doubled over the thread for four rear legs, plus one per side for the antennae/legs at the head)
Saltwater Crystal Flash (stiffer than standard) Ocean green (A small bunch for the underwing)
How to tie it
Mount the stainless hook and remember this fly is tied 'upside down' - everything you tie on the top of the shank in the vise rides on the bottom in the water.
Slip the red eyes onto the hook, start the thread and lash the eyes and their tubes securely at the rear of the shank, near the bend, so they cannot rotate. Shrimp eyes belong at the tail end.
Double two rubber legs over the thread at the same point so you end up with four legs, tie them in on top of the shank, and leave them long for now.
Tie in the tan rabbit strip at the rear with the leather side facing up in the vise (it will ride down), and trim the tail to about an inch to an inch and a half.
Trim the four rear rubber legs to length (two shorter, two about as long as the rabbit tail) for a little variation.
Tie in a strand of gold electro braid behind the eye, bind it back over the rear of the shank to cover the eye wraps, bring the thread forward, then wrap the body forward: bushier at the back around the eyes, tapering down toward the hook eye.
Tie in a small bunch of ocean green saltwater Crystal Flash on the underside (the top in the water) so it extends about an inch past the hook bend but stops short of the end of the rabbit tail.
Tie one rubber leg along each side of the hook at the head, parallel to the shank, so each forms a leg going back and an antenna going forward.
Take three or four good wraps and whip finish at the head.
Trim the front antennae to about an inch and a half and the rear-facing side legs to just past the end of the rabbit strip.
