Dog Biscuit

Nymph · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Short/medium-shank wide-gap hook, 6-10
  • Thread Tan or brown 140 denier

Materials

  • Body Natural/tan material (Spun deer hair (or tan closed-cell foam))
  • Post Hi-vis orange (Antron/poly sighter tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and spin a clump of deer hair, packing it tight.
  2. Wrap through the butts toward the eye and spin a second clump.
  3. Tie in a short hi-vis Antron post on top so you can track the fly.
  4. Spin two more clumps of deer hair forward and tie off as small a head as you can.
  5. Whip finish, then trim the deer hair to a rounded, oblong biscuit shape. This is the messy part.
  6. Leave it buggy and roughly biscuit-sized so it floats and matches the bait.
