How to tie it
Slide the 3mm slotted gold bead onto the jig hook and up to the eye, start the thread behind it and build a thread dam to wedge the bead firmly against the upright of the hook; trim the tag.
Lay a very smooth thread base back to the bend and forward again, a wire body demands a smooth underbody.
Lay a length of small golden olive wire in at an angle across the thread, take a few turns to catch it, draw it to length along the near side of the hook and bind it back to the bend.
Work the thread back and forth to build a smooth taper, conventionally thinner at the rear and fatter at the front, unwinding thread twist as needed.
Wrap the wire forward from the bend in tight, butted turns, tilting it toward the rear as it comes over the shank so each previous turn guides the next, then tie it off behind the bead and helicopter the end off.
Dub a tiny, tight ball of UV brown ice dub on the thread and wrap it as a short collar behind the bead.
Stack two CDC feathers, draw the fibres down either side of the stem, cut the centre stem out to leave a V, and clump the fibres into a ragged bundle.
Measure the CDC to the length of the hook, set it in along the far side, and use thread pressure to roll it down onto the bottom half of the hook, distributing the fibres in a fan across the underside while leaving the top of the hook clear; trim the butts close and bury them.
Take four mallard flank fibres, lay them alongside the hook so the tips extend a little past the bend, tilt them slightly toward you so the thread rolls them into position, one antenna along each side, then bind the butts and trim.
Build a small tidy thread head against the bead and whip finish.
