Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 10-14
  • Thread Olive or yellow 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Dark dun/microfibetts (Split tail fibers, one shank length)
  • Body Drake olive/gray (Dry-fly dubbing)
  • Wing/Post White calf or poly (Single upright parachute post)
  • Hackle Grizzly and dun hackle (Wound parachute-style around the post)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a split tail one shank length long for balance.
  2. Post an upright white parachute wing at the 65% mark and wrap the base to stand it up.
  3. Dub a tapered drake-colored body from the tail up to the post.
  4. Tie in the hackle at the post and dub a short thorax in front.
  5. Wind the hackle parachute-style around the post base, 4-5 turns, and tie it off under the post.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye, keeping the hackle clear, and add a tiny drop of cement.
